The Most Famous Fords In Movies
Ford is one of the most iconic brands, if not the most iconic, in American history. Fords have been seen in all kinds of movies, books, TV shows, and just about anything else you can imagine. Below are a few of the most famous Fords found on the big screen.
Bullitt came out in 1968 and is one of the most famous car movies of all time. The movie features one of the most famous car chases ever through the streets of San Francisco. Even if you can’t think of the scene, chances are you have at least seen clips of it. The main character in the movie, Steve McQueen, drives a green 1968 Mustang GT. The movie showed the speed and agility of one of Ford’s most famous models. The movie was so popular Ford recently released special edition Bullitt edition mustangs. The cars came out in 2001 when Ford and Warner Brothers saw the opportunity due to the movies huge popularity. The new cars were slightly different than other early 2000’s Mustangs and were largely a hit.
Men In Black
Men In Black starring Will Smith is without a doubt one of the most popular movie series in recent time. An often forgotten fact is that a Ford was actually front and center in the original Men In Black movie. Will and his partner patrol in a 1986 Ford LTD Crown Victoria, the classic police car. The movie was released in 1997, however they chose to use an over 10 year old model of the car. This was a talking point in the movie, as Will Smith often stated the car was out of date. There were no specific spin offs Crown Victoria in Men In Black, but there is no denying that seeing it in one of the most popular movies in recent years certainly helped the car’s popularity.
The Big Lebowski
“The Dude” from The Big Lebowski is one of the most famous and unique characters in movie history. Believe it or not, The Dude actually drives a 1973 Ford Gran Torino in the movie. The car is in awful shape as it portrays The Dude’s fringe lifestyle, but underneath the rust there is a Ford symbol. The car plays more of a role in The Big Lebowski than most of the other’s on our list as it is really a part of the main character. The Dude and his Gran Torino are together every step of the way and it is a critical part in showing the viewer what The Dude is all about. Although it may not be in the most flattering light, The Big Lebowski features a Ford in a way we are not used to seeing it.
Jurassic Park is certainly the most adventurous use of a Ford on the big screen. One of the most famous movies of all time uses 1993 Ford Explorers to transport guests around a dinosaur themed amusement park. The explorer came out in 1990 with the purpose of being an all terrain adventure vehicle, but this was a little extreme! The explorers in the movie have a classic, recognizable paint job that is hard to confuse with anything but Jurassic Park. Like The Big Lebowski, Ford’s play an important role in the plot of this movie. The park goers are stranded by explorers and forced to fend for themselves at different points in the movie, adding to the drama.
Ford has played a big role in all kinds of different big screen productions and some of the biggest of all time. There will surely be more Ford appearances in movies as time goes on, but it will be tough to top the popularity of The Big Lebowski and nearly impossible to beat Jurassic Park.
